Detroit Tigers vs Minnesota Twins (Clinch Day?!)

For their birthdays, Anna and I picked this evening to take Mom and Dad to the Detroit Tigers game!  When we picked this date to go, it was mainly because it was my Mom's birthday.  The closer it got to game night, we realized that we might actually be at the game where the Detroit Tigers would clinch the AL Central Division title.  And sure enough, tonight had the potental to be the game.  If Tigers beat the Twins tonight and Kansas City Royals lost to the White Sox, Tigers would be division champs! We went with high hopes and expectations . . . and the Tigers disappointed us . . .
The kids all dressed in their Tiger gear and ready to cheer the team on from home.  Samuel cried LOTS of tears when he realized that he wasn't going along. :(

The rest of their birthday presents - buying them new Tigers apparel!  My Dad got a new hat and my Mom got an Ian Kinsler t-shirt.

A beautiful night for a baseball game!

Love these people!!

73 degrees on September 26?!!? At 7:10 at night? Yes, please!

Ready for the game to start!

Yeah, well, this game isn't going so well!!  First two pitches and Porcello gave up a double and then a single making it 1-0. Did I mention that was only after two pitches?!  Then he got a couple of outs before giving up a home run. Top of the 1st and the score is 3-0.  Tigers have some work to do!

Still having fun even though the score is 6-3 in favor of the Twins . . .and getting worse as this picture was taken.

By the 8th inning the fans were clearing out quickly.  More empty seats or more full seats?

The good news was . . . we got to sit on cushy chairs for the 9th inning because so many people had already left!

In the 9th inning, Ausmus put in a whole new line-up of no-namers. The starters didn't even wait in the dugout for the end of the game. They were so embarrassed that they headed straight for the clubhouse.

Final Score: Tigers 4, Twins 11.  Even the rally cap didn't work.  Oh - and the Royals beat the White Sox. Wow that ended all wrong!!  Oh well - great company, great weather, and still SO FUN to be at Comerica Park cheering on the Tigers!

Apple Picking {2014}

The high today (on September 26!!) was near 80 so we decided it was a perfect day to go apple picking!  We took Grandma with us and headed out to VerHage's.  A few apple farmers around us lost a good chunk of their crops this year, but not VerHage's!  They had apples in abundance.  We went and picked the Golden Delicious - yummy to eat and they make great apple crisps!  Karys was unsure about the whole thing (maybe it was the longer grass on her legs that she didn't like?) but the rest of the kids really enjoyed it. After picking apples we headed to the little barn to see the horse and two goats. We fed them some dandelions and grass (shhhh! don't tell) and laughed at the goats putting their front legs up on the gate. Next we headed for the apple cider barn to get some samples of apple cider and a donut for everyone.  The kids loved the apple cider and so I bought a quart to take home with us. It was a great morning out at the apple orchard! Grandma's birthday is today too so that made it extra special. (The kids are all wearing their Detroit Tigers shirts because Mom, Dad, Anna, and I are going to the Tigers game tonight - hoping that they clinch the AL Central Division title tonight!!)

Monday Evening Walk

Monday evenings Samuel and Daryl have soccer practice. Often the girls and I will take a little walk down the street while we wait for them to come home so we can all have supper together. Tonight, Karys decided to sit down on the curb . . . and then she decided laying down looked even better!

Then the girls joined in on the fun! Karys can pretty much make her siblings do anything

Silly girls!

Then Karys tried the reverse.  It didn't work as well!!

What I want to remember from today:

Samuel is the BEST big brother! He sat with Karys for about 10 minutes tonight and read books with her.  I got to sit in the hallway and just watch . . . with a big smile on my face. What a sweet moment between these two!

  • Hope did a great job at her second dance class today!!  So proud of her!
  • Samuel and Aliyah had their first real babysitter today - Marissa Pease.  They loved her!!  She came while Karys was napping so that I could take Hope to dance class without waking her up.

Things from today that I want to remember:

Aliyah went and got her hair cut today by Caitlin Blauw. She was nervous, but she did great!  She sat in the chair all by herself while Caitlin cut 2-3" off.  I think the last time Aliyah had a haircut was almost 2 years ago! Aliyah was very proud of how brave shew as - her Mommy was too!

The kids and I had a great time playing outside tonight while Daryl was at consistory.  A beautiful fall evening!  Karys loved pushing her water baby on the swing as well as sending her water baby down the slide and then following behind it.

Karys had a good wipeout on the driveway tonight.  She went to pick up a ball but the ball moved and her face hit the cement.  She has a scraped up nose and a scraped up forehead.

My talented 6 year old! Samuel and I kicked his spiderman ball back and forth.  When I would kick it to him he would run/dive/roll . . . whatever he needed to do, to try and catch it!

Hope and Aliyah fight the most out of all of my kids right now.  Hope and Aliyah have also been inseparable lately with their playing.  I am praying for the friendship and love that they have for each other to outweigh the fights and comlaining about each other!

Silly girls!

Hope: "Mom, can you outplug this?"
Samuel: "Remember when we were camping and we had that overpour?" (instead of downpour)
Karys; Nodding her head "yes" whenever someone asks her a question.  Samuel's belly laughs when Karys does something that he thinks is funy.

What I want to remember from today:

Our first fire in our new fireplace! Love, love, love it!!!

Two of my girls. My kids fight over Karys like she is a toy to play with! I love that they all love her, but oh my!

Hope made a pictograph for math today. She is big into drawing teeth on her people lately. And the red things on our chins? Those are our hearts of course!

Hope is a great big sister! She is usually the one I ask when I need someone to entertain or play with Karys. When Hope is calm and in control, she does a wonderful job playing with Kay!

My silly girl with her favorite "shoes" on - her "pretzel flip-flops".  These flip flops have peace signs on them and she calls them pretzels. :)
